Organisations should adopt a culture that gives prominence to data quality so that in the future they are able to deal with data-related issues more naturally, according to Dylan Jones, founder and editor of online data community resource Data Quality Pro.
Mr Jones said that companies should over the years aim to develop a culture of data quality culture, whose handling and use is a topic that could be taught in IT training.
He said that if companies begin to identify areas in every department where data quality improvements can be made, then the task "becomes second nature at every level of the organisation".
But he recognised that before such a culture flourished, managers should acknowledge the handling of data quality as an issue.
Lat week SearchDataManagement.com exclusively reported that Danette McGilvray, president of Granite Falls Consulting, believes one of the best ways to avoid data quality problems is to make all workers responsible for handling it.
