Businesses are now opting to use voice over internet protocol (VoIP) as they reconsider their telecommunications options in the wake of the financial crisis, according to Tan Aksoy, chief executive and founding director of Telappliant.
Speaking at the business communications event UC Expo last month, Mr Aksoy said that "what we've seen is that the recession has actually caused businesses to rethink their telecom expenses".
According to Mr Aksoy, enterprises have begun looking at the bigger picture as they understand that they can slash their costs by replacing systems like ISDN with VoIP.
"If anything, the recession has kicked customers to take a new look at the whole internet telephony proposition," he added.
His comments came as new findings by Infonetics Research suggested that the enterprise technology market was hit hard last year amid the economic downturn. However, the group predicted that business VoIP services will account for almost a third of al VoIP service revenue by 2014.
