Businesses in the UK need to start planning for the next generation of Internet Protocols, called IPv6, if they want to take advantage of new technology, an expert has said.
"The key thing here is planning because if you're forced to do something very quickly then obviously it's going to be really expensive," said Simon McCalla, director of IT at Nominet.
"If you plan ahead as part of your normal software and hardware roll out process you can implement a lot of this as part of your usual technology refresher," he added.
In other news, the implementation of cloud computing among companies is facing less barriers than in the past, Arthur Bolton, director at sourcing consultancy TPI, was quoted as saying.
Mr Bolton also said that huge enterprises are still in the early adopter phase. But companies but have shown signs that they have found ways to overcome obstacles to entry, he says.
