Businesses in the UK must ensure they are aware of potential security threats posed by tablets and netbook computers, according to Dan Shey, enterprise practice director at technology market intelligence company ABI Research.
"Businesses will need to be more cognisant of the information or data contained in these devices and the potential security threats," he said.
Recognising threats to IT systems is a topic that could be taught in IT training.
He went on to say that by definition mobile devices can be taken off business premises and that's when the threats increase.
Mr Shey said he expects initial enterprise adoption of post-smartphone mobile devices, such as the iPad, to be by smaller companies "whose security concerns with mobile devices are less".
Separately, there are surprising gaps in readiness by European businesses to support, secure and ultimately cash in on the fast growth in use of consumer technologies, such as netbooks and iPads, in the workplace, according to research from Unisys, conducted by International Data Corporation.
