Cloud computing 'to gain strength next year'

UK businesses are going to be more keen to deploy cloud computing next year, according to Rob Lovell, chief executive of cloud computing providers ThinkGrid.

Mr Lovell said businesses are going to be "keen to benefit from the monthly payments for IT, that the cloud enables, as opposed to having to spend large amounts of capital whenever hardware or software needs updating or replacing."

He also said that by using cloud computing, organisations can be "rid of the IT management burden" because their computing needs will be serviced by the cloud, Mr Lovell said.

In other news, the recent popularity netbooks, small portable computers, have enjoyed may be on its way down, according to an expert.

"The days of the netbook are over," said Stuart Miles, founder and editor of technology blog Pocket Lint, was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The expert believes that a rise in prices, net-using habits changing and other gadgets taking on their functions will all contribute to the decline of popularity of the netbooks.
