Cloud computing 'helps businesses function during severe weather'

16:07 11th January 2010

Cloud computing allows companies to keep operating despite severe weather conditions, according to Rob Lovell, chief executive at cloud computing platform provider ThinkGrid.

"It's very important for businesses to think about how they react to such things happening," he said.

In his opinion, it is important for businesses to have a plan to deal with such disruptions or they would continue to be impacted by them.

"Where we come in and cloud computing comes in is giving people disaster recovery and business continuity as part of the overall solution," Mr Lovell added.

"If you enable people to work and do the things they were doing when they were in the office…then productivity won't be impacted," he explained.

His comments followed a survey by Peninsula, which said 44 per cent of UK workers stayed at home because of the snow last Wednesday.

Peninsula polled 462 companies between 7am and 10am on January 6th 2009.
