20:30 11th December 2008

A former IT executive at Lehman Brothers has been recruited by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Chad Fulgham takes over the role of chief information officer at the security services agency and will spearhead the organisation's efforts to combat the growth of organised crime that exploits the latest advances in IT.

During his time at Lehman Brothers, he served in a variety of senior management roles and laid the foundation for the IT strategy of the agency.

FBI director Robert Mueller commented: "In today's global environment, information technology remains key to how the FBI conducts its business - capturing information that can be instantly retrieved and shared as we build our investigations, providing the means to collaborate across distances and keeping our information secure."

He added that Mr Fulgham's experience in the multinational sector would be of particular use to the agency.

The FBI was set up in 1908 and operated under the name 'special agent force' with just 70 employees.ADNFCR-1667-ID-18925674-ADNFCR
