Changing career is a positive move that should be encouraged, according to The Careers Advice Service.
New research from the advisory organisation has revealed that nearly three-quarters of UK workers plan to change their career direction at least once.
That said, a quarter of those who do want to try something new will back down because of a lack of qualifications and financial problems.
Retraining by joining computing courses offers workers a quick route into an industry that hopes to be at the forefront of the economic recovery.
Jennifer Kneafsey, a careers coach from the Careers Advice Service, says when you think of how long it is you spend in work "considering changing career is not quite as shocking as it might have been some years ago".
"A career change is a positive thing as it can encourage people to push themselves and learn new skills," she went on.
Research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found more than a third (34 per cent) of workers said they would like to change jobs and 49 per cent explained they wanted to move to a completely new sector.
