The Conservative party has commissioned an independent review of NHS IT policy.
The British Computer Society (BCS) will conduct the review, which aims to establish how IT can meet public, clinical and management demands in the health services.
It will advise the current government and provide policy consideration for an incoming administration, with the BSC stressing that it the process will be completely apolitical.
Glyn Hayes, member of the BCS Health Informatics Forum strategic panel, explained that the report does not aim to criticise past developments.
He said: "It is not about looking at what's gone wrong, or to criticise, it's looking forward at a view for the future and what we need to have in five years time."
"The Conservatives wanted evidence-based policy and an independent review to produce a vision that could feed into their decision-making policy."
Earlier this month, compuetrweekly.com emphasised the critical part that IT systems will play at the London Olympics.
