CIOs unsure over IT budgets

High-level IT professionals are divided over the prospects for technology budgets in 2009, a new survey has disclosed.

CIO connect has published research conducted among FTSE 250 chief information officers (CIOs), revealing that a third expect their IT budgets to rise; a third believe their budgets will fall; and a further third think that they will stay the same.

Kevin White, CIO Connect content director, explained that these findings reflect the current economic outlook.

"If there is one thing certain it is that it will be uncertain for a while," he said.

However, Mr White also emphasised that these results are more positive than other recent surveys.

"The third-third-third split is rather more positive than previous data released over the last week or two," he added.

A Gartner global poll of CIOs, released in June, claimed that fears of a recession have led to a reduction in IT budgets.
