Chief information officers (CIO) around the world continue to focus on investing in new technologies to help them improve efficiencies and decision making across their businesses, new research shows.
The latest global CIO study from IBM reveals that IT chiefs are not only working to improve decision making, but are also striving to reduce energy consumption and using analytics to help determine new growth markets.
"Managing and leveraging new intelligence through analytics is something that today's CIO is pursuing to gain competitive advantage in these new markets," said CIO of IBM Pat Toole.
Visionary projects are also being considered by CIOs as they work to learn new technologies and take advantage of them so they can help the business in the future.
The role of the CIO is transforming as quickly as new technology develops, the survey suggested, noting that leaders in such a role are focusing more on innovation and value than IT alone.
More than 2,500 CIOs from some 75 different countries took part in the survey.
