Businesses 'increasingly focussing on data security'

IT experts could be in high demand in future because companies are increasingly aware of the importance of maintaining a high level of data security.

According to one IT security organisation, many businesses are now recognising that data security needs to be a top consideration for their operations and as a result are looking at boosting their defences.

David Emms, senior security researcher in the global research and analysis team at international information security software vendor Kaspersky, explained data security "does need more attention, but it is becoming a very well publicised issue".

He cited "embarrassment and loss of reputation" as the immediate consequences of data loss by an organisation.

A recent report commissioned by Lumension and conducted by the Ponemon Institute, found a lack of resources and executive-level support for security policies were to blame for companies adopting new technologies faster than they can ensure they are secure.
