The government claimed yesterday (January 29th) that every home in the UK will have access to broadband by 2012.
An interim report made the recommendation that all households should have access to connections of up to two megabits per second in order to keep up with increasingly advanced content on websites.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the government will be aware of which internet service providers will be capable of establishing 'next generation' networks and which will require additional support.
Discussing the details of the report, culture secretary Andy Burnham explained that the strategies were designed to ensure that Britain "led the world in content creation" in the next five to ten years.
If the initiatives prove successful and the proposed level of broadband connectivity can be met, they will be a major boost for IT companies, particularly those which focus on conducting home learning courses.
The British Retail Consortium revealed last week that the number of Britons using the internet to shop is constantly growing as the number of connections in UK homes increases.
