Suppliers of broadband must be clearer about the speed they are providing to customers, according to Chris Marling, editor of the independent and mobile broadband comparison website Broadband Genie.
"We would like the mobile broadband suppliers to be more transparent about the realities of mobile broadband," he said.
Mr Marling went on to say that speed does not have to be the key selling point of mobile broadband and that operators should market it as being suitable for everyday online activities such as web browsing and email.
His comments emerged as analysis company ABI Research forecasted shipments of mobile broadband-enabled consumer electronics will increase 55-fold between 2008 and 2014.
In other news, IT departments should design applications to help businesses cope with the economic downturn, Forrester Research was quoted as saying.
Teams working in the development of technology applications should conceive them taking into account the needs of small businesses, Computer Weekly claims the company said.
