Political parties in the UK have not been specific over their plans for next-generation internet access ahead of the forthcoming election, according to Andrew Ferguson, editor at thinkbroadband.com.
"Labour and the other parties are keeping the technical detail very sparse," said Mr Ferguson.
In their election manifestos, the three main parties said they were planning to deploy high-speed broadband across the country.
The Conservative party has promised a next-generation speed of 100Mbps (Megabit per second) while Labour and the Liberal Democrats have not made a specific speed commitment.
According to Mr Ferguson, "the reality of the Conservatives' promises depends a lot on what they really mean" in terms of offering next-generation broadband to the majority of the population.
He noted that it is very likely that 60 per cent of the country will have 100Mbps speed "with no work from any party" within the next few years following investment from the private sector.
