Bonuses on the rise in IT industry

15:10 4th June 2008

A career change to the IT industry could be as rewarding financially as it is mentally, recent research has found.

Figures published by the National Computing Centre (NCC) show that the proportion of people in IT careers in the UK who are receiving bonuses is 44 per cent - a rise of six per cent on last year.

Furthermore, the overall value of those bonuses has increased from 7.5 per cent to 8.3 per cent.

Before bonuses, the average salary for IT jobs grew by 3.7 per cent since 2007 - in line with the national increase in earnings, according to government figures.

"The repercussions of the credit crunch are unknown, but more and more organisations are doing business online so demand for web-related skills is buoyant," commented Ian Jones, head of content at the NCC, in what could be good news for those enrolled on web design courses.

Jan Peters, manager of the British Computer Society's (BCS) Women's Forum, recently claimed that money was one of the main attractions offered by a career in IT.
