Microsoft chief executive Steve Balmer has said technology will lead the US out of recession.
Addressing the North Carolina Technology Association, the Microsoft chief said research and development will be a key area in which the industry will contribute to a wider recovery.
"Nothing ever slows down," he said: "There continues to be amazing change, and it's not just in the new things you see and read."
Keeping pace with the rapid changes in the IT and technology industries is never easy, although taking computing courses is one way to keep current.
Mr Ballmer explained that there is an opportunity for the technology industry "to help drive the productivity and innovation that can let the economy come back and grow again".
Mr Ballmer replaced one of the most famous men in computing, Bill Gates, when he took the top job at Microsoft on June 28th 2008.
