BT to offer new fibre broadband service

19:04 26th January 2010

BT is launching a new service that will enable companies to access 40 Mbps fibre broadband for £45 per month.

Nigel Stagg, managing director at BT Business, said the telecoms group has found that one in four companies are already using faster broadband to drive more processes over the internet while another 28 per cent are using it to increase their website capabilities.

"We are committed to rolling out higher speeds and additional coverage across the UK during 2010," he added.

The company, which last week launched its Infinity service for home users, also at 40 Mbps, said that four million business premises will have access to fibre-based broadband service by the end of the year.

In other news, a project to build a fibre network, which will serve homes and businesses in Manchester, is underway, a news report has said.

The project has been hailed as one of the biggest in the country and could be a window into how Britain will implement the next-generation broadband, the report added.
