Major internet service provider BT is to market its new I-Plate more widely in the coming months as a way of boosting broadband connection speeds.
The device works by blocking electromagnetic "noise" generated by other electrical equipment in the immediate environment, resulting in an increase of as much as four megabits per second (Mbps) to the download speed, reports the Telegraph.
BT Retail says it has already clocked up thousands of sales of the device via its website and the company will soon be launching a campaign to market the I-Plate more broadly.
A BT spokesman told the paper: "We think that the I-Plate can certainly play a part in delivering higher broadband speeds to people suffering poor performance."
If the I-Plate proves a widespread success, it could help web-users to pursue computer training and home learning through a faster home internet connection.
The government recently announced plans to deliver a connection speed of at least 2Mbps to every UK home over the coming years.
