BCS to recruit new director

10:16 24th February 2009

A new director will be recruited to help cement the position of the British Computer Society (BCS) as the UK's leading representative of the IT industry.

The director will lead the organisation's Learned Society and improve its role within UK business and among ICT academics.

Relations will also be further developed with government bodies to help establish the BCS as the first Learned Society that organisations turn to when it comes to ICT matters.

David Clarke, chief executive officer of the BCS, said: "Ensuring that computer science is seen as an attractive career option is vital for the future of the IT industry as a whole and it's an issue we take very seriously as the professional body for that industry."

Promoting the role of the BCS in the UK could encourage more people to take computer training courses and pursue IT careers.

The BCS already provides accreditation for more than 1,000 university courses and boasts a membership of nearly 70,000.

According to the organisation's website its members are spread across 100 separate countries.
