Google would undermine its own strategy if it decided to allow advertising hosted by social media platforms to be indexed by the giant search engine, according Andrew Girdwood, head of strategy at integrated digital marketing campaigns agency bigmouthmedia.
"If you can imagine a future where ads from social platforms routinely appeared on Google pages then I imagine that would certainly weaken Google's proposition," he said.
The expert went on to say that Google running another organisation's advertising "in any significant way would
certainly be a very big step" for online advertising.
Separately, search engine Land reported late last year that Google had begun to carry ads from someone else's ad network for the first time as it integrates Twitter's Promoted Tweets into Google
Realtime Search.
In the case of Google, mentions of Twitter's advertising would be "really limited" and would only appear via Google's social updates feature Google Realtime, he added.
