Users of Adobe Acrobat Reader software are advised to download the latest update to fix a security hold in the Download Manager software, according to the company.

"This vulnerability (CVE-2010-0189) could potentially allow an attacker to download and install unauthorised software onto a user's system," the company has said.

It is important to verify that the wrong version is not installed on their machine.

To fix the problem, users need to run services, msc to ensure that "getPlusRHelper" is not present in list of services. If it is present, the company advises users to add/remove programs in Windows and delete the Download Manager to fix the flaw.

In other news, a total of 35 countries could be monitored for piracy and counterfeit activities after a coalition of US trade associations urged greater efforts to stop copyright theft.

In a submission to the US Trade Representative, the International Intellectual Property Alliance said the monitoring would protect industries worth an estimated $889 billion and 5.6 million workers who earn an average of 30 per cent more than other employees.
