Two-thirds of IT professionals expect technologies such as blogs, wikis and RSS feeds to have a substantial impact on their businesses, a new survey has revealed.
A poll of 260 IT professionals, conducted by Forrester Researcher, found that 63 per cent of respondents see that Web 2.0 technologies can bolster businesses relevance and meet enterprise requirements.
Oliver Young, the author of the Forrester report, said that he is seeing more IT departments leading the Web 2.0 discussions.
He said: "It is a growing familiarity of the tools up and down the organization.
"Just a couple of years ago, a lot of these tools were very foreign. IT departments and professionals are increasingly using these tools for their own use."
However the study did find that the understanding of these tools is uneven; with junior staffers most aware of the technology and Chief Information Officers most likely to be sceptical.
Earlier this month, a senior IT leader said that Social networking tools will encourage more women to consider a career in IT.
