The IT industry should expect next year to be a "bumper year", with more demand for both contractors and permanent staff [expected REMOVE], according to Gerry McLaughlin of ITContractor.com.
However, Mr McLaughlin warned that the supply of staff might struggle to meet demand.
"2011 looks as if it will be a bumper year for those that work in the IT industry and already, so soon after the downturn, there are signs of looming skills shortages in some areas," he said.
The government last week revealed that cuts to its IT spending have allowed it to make over £1 billion in savings so far this year.
The private sector would not follow suit and should "easily be able" to compensate for reductions in public sector spending, the expert said.
"The IT contractor market picked up first and now the permanent jobs market is making the running," he explained.
"The big banks and financial institutions are now competing for IT staff and contractors again."
