A trio of education centres in Manchester have won a grant to help tackle unemployment in the area.
Corridor Manchester, Manchester Business School and the University of Manchester have won £500,000 from the Economic Challenge Investment Fund.
They will use the money to deliver five initiatives that hope to increase the skill level of the people living in the region and help them implement a career change.
Dr Michael Hartmann, chief external officer at Manchester Business School, said: "The funding will ... give those looking to re-train, up-skill, secure a new job [or] establish a portfolio career...the opportunity to boost their careers."
He added that the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance has risen by 80.7 per cent between May 2008 and 2009 in Greater Manchester.
Included in the five initiatives is the High Flyers programme which offers mini-MBA training for graduates and an Enterprise Skills Training course.
The University of Manchester is Britain's largest single-site university.
