Employees should take every opportunity to seek training if it means their future career prospects are more secure, it has been claimed.
Frances Wilson, HR advisor for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said if staff pursue computer training and other courses as regularly as possible, Britain will be in a better position when the recession ends.
She added that training is likely to lead to greater job security as employees expand their various skill sets and appeal to more employers.
Ms Wilson said: "I think it's crucial because people need to look at the skills they've got. If there is any way they can improve their current or future employability by retraining and up-skilling then it is essential that they should do so."
According to womenintechnology.co.uk, more flexible working hours could encourage more women to pursue a career change and head into the IT sector to expand their skills.
In addition, plans from BT and Virgin Media to introduce high-speed broadband connections across the UK could facilitate computer training.
