Sussex businesses called upon to provide more training

09:24 6th April 2009

A business organisation has called on firms in Crowborough, Sussex, to offer more training opportunities to local people, reports the Kent and Sussex Courier.

The Local Business Network (LBN) has launched a new page on its website offering comprehensive information on training provided in the region and the companies which are offering it.

Residents will be able to scan the page for details of computer and IT training opportunities, as well as management training and first aid.

Tony Slack, chairman of the LBN, told the paper why he set up the new page: "[Small local businesses] were saying that they have had more inquiries in the last year than they have had before and it just made me think that maybe there is something that I ought to do to try and support the local economy."

Businesses which are members of the LBN will enjoy free links to their websites when they supply course details.

Professor Anna Vignoles, of the Institute of Education in London, recently criticised adult education basic skills programmes as "ineffective", according to the Press Association.
