Web design courses could be an option for people at smaller businesses looking to compete with their bigger competitors, it has been implied.
Julie Howell, director of accessibility at web design company Fortune Cookie, has expressed her concern that smaller firms are "missing out" by not having a presence on the internet.
She said that by being more visible on the web, such businesses have more opportunity to engage with a different kind of customer base - such as those who have difficulties travelling.
"I am very concerned that smaller businesses are not getting these messages. This is such an opportunity for smaller businesses to steal the lead," added Ms Howell.
According to World Wide Web Consortium, designing sites and software that can meet a range of user needs, preferences and situations is a key facet of web accessibility.
