Research published today by The IT Job Board has revealed that there is a skills shortage in the IT sector.
Despite regular newspaper headlines lamenting growing numbers of unemployed people, 56 per cent of those in the IT industry who took part in the survey agreed that there is a skills shortage.
In addition, 72 per cent of respondents said that the skills chasm would continue to grow and 55.5 per cent cited a lack of IT professionals to be one of the reasons for this.
The phenomenal pace of change within the IT sector was thought to be a major reason by 55 per cent of respondents for the need for continuous IT training.
Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, commented: "The IT sector is a rapidly evolving one, and it is down to employers to invest in their staff, both via systems and training, to ensure they stay up-to-speed with the changes."
An earlier report by The IT Job Board revealed that job boards were the most cost-effective and efficient methods of recruitment during the current global financial crisis.
