New research has suggested that schools and teachers need greater IT training to ensure that they are able to keep up with the changing world of technology.
A study published by the British Educational Suppliers Association (Besa) reveals there has been a reduction in the confidence of teachers when teaching IT to children over the past year.
Besa director Ray Barker commented: "There was a ten per cent drop in confidence and competence using ICT in the curriculum from 2007 in primary schools, and an eight per cent reduction in secondary schools."
The fall demonstrates the need to boost IT training for school staff, particularly as another survey has recently highlighted the importance that IT chiefs place on a highly-skilled staff.
Figures published earlier this month in a report commissioned by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, found two-thirds of IT chiefs believe a focus on improving IT training for staff is crucial.
It also found over half those polled wanted to see a clearer emphasis on practical usage of IT in the workplace built into IT training courses and qualifications.
