Over £80m made available for skills training

16:45 1st June 2009

The government has announced that a series of London colleges will receive a share of an £83 million fund to help people gain skills training.

John Denham, skills secretary at the Department of Innovations, Universities and Skills, made the announcement regarding the funds, which will be used to assist both unemployed individuals and graduates, reports pareto.co.uk.

Specific course content, which could include computer training, will depend on what jobs are available in the region, but people will be able to carry on even if they find employment as they train.

Mr Denham told the website: "We will not stand by and leave people abandoned on the dole with no support. I would encourage people across London to take advantage of these training opportunities."

In related news, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will be providing as many as 14 hours of computer training to industry professionals in Paris later in June, with people having the opportunity to learn from individuals responsible for some of the biggest-selling games of recent times, reports developmag.com.
