No university place? Try distance learning

17:09 18th August 2011

Students who have missed out on a university place this year should not give up hope of getting an academic qualification, as distance learning could be a better option.

According to the Independent, home learning could suit some people more because it means they do not have to uproot their life and live in a different city, or even country, for the next three years.

Additionally, home study is generally cheaper than full-time courses because home learners do not have to attend lectures on campus or be spoon-fed information by their tutors, so this could be a worthwhile option for people wondering how to find the time to earn money and study.

The newspaper also pointed out that distance learning equals flexibility, meaning those with young families can better manage their personal and academic lives.

"You choose when to sit down and work, when to write your essays and when to get in contact with your academic supervisors. And all of this is done without having to lose touch with family and friends," the publication added.
