Employers are being encouraged to invest in training to ensure they survive the recession in a new campaign launched by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).
The Now is the Time training award will be presented to employers to give them public recognition for continuing to develop the skills and talents of staff.
IT training and home study could be two of the options companies use to help the development of employees.
Chris Humphries, chief executive of the UKCES, said: "Cutting training budgets can be seen as a quick way to save money during a recession, but now is precisely the time to keep investing in the skills and talents of people."
He added that the skill of a workforce is the best guarantee of future prosperity for businesses in the financial crisis.
The new award will be one of a series presented by UK Skills, a non-profit organisation which encourages skills and learning in the workplace.
