New campaign to encourage kids to train in IT

A new campaign has been launched to attempt to fill the skills gap in the IT sector.

With many industries struggling and job losses predicted, now may be a good time to think about retraining in IT - a growing industry that is likely to offer many opportunities for those with the right training.

The BigAmbition Project is being launched by e-skills UK and aims to encourage more people to look into how the technology that they buy is produced, Karen Price, who heads the project, explained.

"What BigAmbition aims to get across to students is that all the technology they love is developed by people with careers in IT, and that they could have these careers and make a difference," she said.

According to VNU Net, a government study has shown that the number of young people choosing to study IT is declining, while the industry is growing rapidly.

This could mean that those savvy enough to sign up to IT training could be entering a very lucrative job market with very little competition.

The BigAmbition is aimed at people aged 14 to 19 and looks to stimulate an interest in IT by showing how popular sites and applications like Facebook, Milo and MySpace are created.
