A new course organised by International Correspondence Schools (ICS) is providing computer training to IT professionals on how to hack into corporate systems.
Dubbed the Ethical Hacker, the IT training programme is designed to teach people how hackers operate on a technical level so that employees will be better equipped to defend against them.
As they will be shown how to hack into a corporate system, candidates for the course will have to provide detailed references and be subject to a strenuous vetting programme.
Phil Worms, director of hosting, managed and data centre specialists Iomart, told the website: "Long gone are the days of thinking that an internet security policy was a 'nice to have' - it is now an absolute necessity and education is the single most important weapon that a company can deploy against cyber attacks."
He added that cyber criminals are flourishing on the internet and companies need to ensure they know how to form an effective defence.
The recession has driven many cyber criminals to perpetrate more elaborate schemes as credit card companies have become more vigilant towards fraud.
