More training opportunities are needed to help fill the IT security jobs still available on the market, reports silicon.com.
According to Paul Dorey, chairman of the Institute of Information Security Professionals (IISP), only a fraction of the UK's chief security officer positions have been filled in recent months and he said that better training could help address this.
The Infotec Training Paths & Competencies (ITPC), a training scheme run by the government, will transfer its accreditation section to the IISP in a few weeks and it is hoped that more people will pass through it.
Mr Dorey told the website: "The genuine issue is that there is a shortage of appropriate security professionals and we need more processes to provide proper accreditation in the field to give them the training and monitoring they need."
He added that more training would increase the number of potential candidates able to take up the more important IT industry positions.
