Thousands more training places will be created in Wales in a bid to help jobseekers defy the downturn and develop additional skill sets.
As a result of the All-Wales Economic Summit, tailored training will be provided for 3,500 jobseekers who have been unemployed for at least six months, while the Skillbuild pre-employment training programme will be extended to benefit 4,000 more people.
In addition, over 17,000 people will be able to find assistance from 30 new Careers Wales advisers and money will be allocated to fund 2,500 more places in sixth form colleges and further education institutions.
Jenny Randerson, Welsh Liberal Democrat economic spokeswoman, told WalesOnline.co.uk: "The communique is full of warm words about extra resources, but of course the devil will be in the detail."
Additional college funding was announced in response to protests from students, unions and assembly ministers regarding reductions in funding.
The additional training resources could inspire more people to seek database administration course and IT careers.
Glasgow city council has announced additional funding for apprenticeships in the city, according to the Herald.
