UK businesses need to train their staff to protect themselves from web-based security threats, according to internet campaign group Get Safe Online.
The comments come after research from ISACA revealed that there has been an increase this year in the number of employees who are compromising their online security while using their work computer for online shopping.
Further IT training on of the risks involved in seemingly harmless acts such as clicking on email links or sharing their work email address while making purchases online must be passed on, said the campaign group.
Tony Neate, managing director of the Get Safe Online initiative, said: "Employers need to put in a form of education to educate their employees who are using the internet. They need to put in place some policies and procedures so people know what they can do and what they can't do."
Get Safe Online today (November 15th) published a warning to the public about the threat from criminal gangs that are tricking people into downloading anti-virus protection which is actually malicious software.
