Mobile working on the decline?

18:25 6th June 2008

An increasing number of people in IT careers and other professions could be working in the office, despite recent steps to promote mobile working, new research has suggested.

A survey of workers in the UK by Microsoft found that 50 per cent of firms offer home-based working arrangements to their staff - a fall from 60 per cent in 2007.

On a similar note, 13 per cent of respondents said that mobile working is discouraged in their workplace, while only one in ten believe they are given the leeway to adopt such an approach.

These figures appear to be at odds with the belief that flexible employment practices can be of benefit in terms of productivity, staff happiness and office costs - indeed, 25 per cent of senior managers claimed they would consider leaving their job if they were not allowed the freedom to work away from the office.

Flexibility, however, is a keyword for Computeach's home learning courses, which can be studied at a pace that suits you.
