Mobile VoIP 'offers huge potential'

Mobile Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is set to revolutionise the business world by allowing more people to work remotely, it has been claimed.

According to Howard Spink, UK director for customer interactive solutions at IT services and solution provider Dimension Data, the demand for mobile VoIP services will grow in the months ahead has more businesses recognise the potential for using the technology for remote working.

He explained that failing to invest in VoIP solutions is a "shortcut to making yourself unattractive to customers".

Mobile VoIP can allow staff to work away from the office but remain in touch with what is going on at the company without having to pay large amounts for phone calls and other services.

However, staff may want to undertake IT training to ensure they have the full skills necessary to make the most of the technology.

Furthermore, mobile VoIP could also help increase the accessibility of remote learning, because it could help people to access training courses without having to be in front of a computer.

A recent survey from YouGov in conjunction with mobile services over broadband company Kineto Wireless revealed 18 per cent of UK adults with a mobile phone would be interested in a mobile VoIP service offered by their mobile operator.
