Millions of pounds are to be invested in a number of IT training projects as part of a nationwide effort aimed at tackling some of the major problems facing the UK.
Under the new £250 million initiative announced by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), some 44 new centres are to be opened up across the country tasked with training a new generation of researchers and doctoral students.
In addition to providing IT training, the money will fund research into pertinent issues such as climate change, the UK's ageing population and hi-tech crime.
According to Lord Drayson, minister for science and innovation, this money will create a "new wave" of scientists and IT specialists.
"This is an exciting, innovative approach to training young researchers and will help build a better future for Britain," he stated.
This latest initiative follows on from the recent news that a firm in Inverness is rolling out a series of IT training schemes for local residents.
