Leaving a job for something new is not always the riskiest option despite the current state of the economy, according to Monster.
Corinne Mills, HR advisor at the employment website, said that it is natural for people to consider leaving their current job to be a risky move in the current climate, but ultimately staying in a job with few prospects could be the worse move.
She said that people looking for a new job or seeking a career change are more likely to be successful if they commit themselves to the task and accepted economic realities.
Ms Mills said: "A career change is possible as long as you approach it with dedication, enthusiasm and a healthy dose of realism."
The expert added that conducting research into available courses could help people to achieve success. Pursuing computer training could be a good move in preparation for an IT career.
A recent study carried out by Monster found that only ten per cent of employees believe they are working in their perfect job.
