Students on programming courses have only today to trial a version of Microsoft's new operating system (OS).
The US software manufacturer will then remove its release candidate (RC) of Windows 7, which has been available to download from its website.
By making this version available the firm hopes to gather feedback on its performance ahead of an official release date, set for October 22nd.
Users have been advised to run the software from a back-up system, as it is not yet complete.
Windows RC can be used until March 1st 2010. Every two hours from this date PCs will start shutting down, until the system expires on June 1st 2010.
Microsoft claims that its new OS will make everyday computing faster, simpler and easier.
The firm is already offering potential buyers the chance to order a laptop from a range of participatory PC manufacturers, which would entitle them to an automatic upgrade to Windows 7 when it goes live in October.
