The UK IT industry is in danger of suffering a severe shortage of talented professionals in the coming years because many talented young people may be drawn abroad to find better opportunities, it has been claimed.
A study from the IT Job Board has warned that 76 per cent of IT workers believe the UK IT industry may suffer from brain drain due to outsourcing, contract rate reductions and concern over long-term career prospects.
Furthermore, 80 per cent of those surveyed said, due to the economic downturn, they would be willing to relocate for a job.
As a result of the findings, businesses may need to consider improving IT training options for staff to ensure that they can retain a skilled workforce in the future.
Programming careers are particularly easy to obtain outside the UK, explained Adam Stokes, operations manager at The IT Job Board, because the majority of programming is in English, regardless of where in the world the work is being done.
A recent report from Research and Markets suggested that the UK IT industry is now 'mature', but companies are facing significant pressure to achieve even greater efficiencies in their operations.
