IT training could help staff understand security issues

Providing staff with computer training could enable businesses to protect sensitive data more thoroughly as it could strengthen employees' understanding of security risks.

Paul Mutton, internet services developer at IT security firm Netcraft, said businesses face security risks from their employees on a daily basis, regardless of whether staff members actually intend to cause problems.

He added that security guidelines, potentially to include some form of IT training, could help tackle the problem and could be more pertinent as remote working becomes more commonplace.

Mr Mutton said: "[Remote working] is spreading data out to more computers at the end of the day, so it is certainly not going to decrease the risk."

Working with the use of mobile devices exposes businesses to different risks, so firms could ensure their employees are aware of this.

It was recently reported that thousands of pieces of information from T-Mobile customers have been passed to third party agents.
