The use of email by businesses could be overtaken by social networking technology in the coming decade, it has been claimed.
According to Mickael Remond, chief executive of communications company ProcessOne, instant messaging and other forms of social media are set to become an important business tool over the years ahead, meaning those who have taken training in the technology may find they are better placed to obtain a new job.
"The ability to see the present status of colleagues in offices on the other side of the world and link that to what's happening is vital," he explained.
However, Mr Remond suggested that email would still provide an important function for many businesses, meaning young people should still be trained in using such technology.
A recent poll by TalkTalk and the University of Kent found just 51 per cent of what the survey termed "First lifers" - the two million Brits who are in their late teens, or early 20s, tech-savvy, and hate to work at a desk - still use email regularly.
