IT training 'could avoid net attacks'

14:45 6th October 2009

A new study has found many Britons have suffered a virus attack on their computer despite believing that their machine is relatively secure.

According to a survey carried out by ISPreview, nearly 90 per cent of the 532 respondents said their internet connection is 'reasonably secure'.

However, 66 per cent of users admitted that their computers had been attacked at some point in the past, demonstrating that their ability to prevent viruses and other malware may be limited.

As a result, more people may want to consider taking an IT training course to improve their knowledge of computer security and help them develop the necessary skills to stop their machines from being attacked in the future.

This is particularly important as the vast majority of respondents felt the responsibility for the security of their PC rested with themselves rather than their internet service provider.

The number of people accessing internet services is increasing rapidly across the country as the government looks to continue the rollout of high-speed broadband technology.
