A major new training centre designed to boost the UK's IT industry is to be established in Wales, it has been revealed.
The £44 million centre will be based in the two hubs of Swansea and Cardiff universities, the government revealed in its pre-Budget report, providing a new opportunity for businesses in the region to find the best talent in the IT industry.
People entering IT careers in the future may want to first head to the centre in order to improve their skills and endure they have the skills to succeed in the IT industry.
Welsh secretary Peter Hain said: "By giving companies in Wales improved access to the latest technologies and training, we can ensure that Welsh businesses are able to compete on a global stage alongside other world-leading innovators."
The new facility will be known as the High Performance Computing Institute and will provide businesses from across the country with access to tailored training packages designed to enhance workforce skills.
Chancellor Alistair Darling reaffirmed the government's commitment to provide training to young people in his pre-Budget report, revealing that a scheme to deliver training, a job or a work placement to all unemployed people between the ages of 18 and 24 would be extended for another year.
