IT professionals who have been awarded the ITIL information technology qualification should expect to earn 40 per cent more than individuals who don't, according to a study.
Recruitment consultants Globe One joined forces with IT services company Axios Systems to carry out the research.
The study showed that IT workers without the qualification would have to spend at least ten years acquiring on-the-job experience before they could enter the same salary bracket as someone who did have the qualification.
Globe One divisional manager Lauren Needoff commented: "We have worked with organisations in the IT service management space for many years and a trend that we have identified is that many positions simply are not open to candidates that have not attained the ITIL certification."
She added that the public sector and businesses in the financial services were most likely to require new recruits to have achieved certification and it was a good investment to undertake IT training as the skills gap within junior positions was the subject of much concern among companies.
ITIL provides professional qualification for IT Service Management Professional.
