IT professionals must continuously update skills to survive credit crunch

The current economic malaise requires IT professionals to be even more up-to-date with their IT training, says the British Computer Society (BCS).

BCS is urging IT practitioners to continuously review their skill-set and has entered into a three-year agreement with Pearson VUE to enable BCS trainees to take digital tests.

Online registration and payment adds to the ease of IT certification and is intended to encourage a greater number of IT workers to look into training courses.

Michiel van der Voort, BCS international director, commented: "This agreement is an important element in the BCS professionalism programme. IT is a demanding profession where skills need to be maintained and never more so during an economic downturn."

He added that the flexible nature of the new system would enable IT professionals to expand their employment opportunities as well as enhance the credibility of BCS.

Research by BCS revealed IT workers with ITIL qualifications earn 40 per cent more than those without the qualification.ADNFCR-1667-ID-18927402-ADNFCR
